Why a Blender Might Be a Better Choice Than a Juicer

In the pursuit of health, people are willing to try anything. One appliance that has built a reputation in the health community is the juicer, but it might not deserve the respect it gets.

While juicers can encourage people to consume more vegetables and fruits, increasing vital nutrients and minerals, the device also strips out healthy fiber. Additionally, the cost of juicing is often not worth the benefits.

A better option when looking into appliances is a blender. Blenders can be more expensive than some juicers, but they will save you money in the long run, especially with consistent use.

Despite the popularity of juicers, they are not all they are cracked up to be. A blender is a better option for many reasons.

1. Nutrients

While a juicer encourages greater consumption of fruits and veggies, the device strips away fiber and can increase the intake of potentially harmful substances. For instance, many people prefer the taste of fruit juices, but using a juicer for only fruit juices will increase sugar intake exponentially.

Because of the increased sugar intake, some health professionals warn of the increased risk of heart disease and other conditions when using a juicer for your sole fruit source. Vegetables do not have the same sugar levels, meaning using a juicer primarily for vegetable juice is a better idea.

However, you do not want to rely on fruit or vegetable juices as your sole food source in either case. You will still need to eat the fruits and vegetables to receive the full benefits.

A blender is not like a juicer, and it will allow users to maintain the nutrient value of the fruit or vegetable because no part is expelled. Therefore, a blender is a better option when compared to a juicer.

2. Expense

While a blender can be more expensive than a juicer, the cost of owning and using a juicer is significantly more. A single fruit drink will require many pieces of fruit because the fibrous body of the fruit is expelled. Vegetable juices need even more of the source material for a small amount of liquid. You can buy a refrigerator full of fruits and vegetables and still not be able to make a week's worth of juices.

Because a blender uses the whole fruit or vegetable, aside from the outer skin in some cases, a smoothie or other drink requires fewer materials. Therefore, making blended drinks is less expensive and often more satisfying than consuming juices.

3. Weight Loss

Juices are often not as satisfying as smoothies, despite using more fruits and vegetables to make a comparable serving. Because juices do not satisfy as much as smoothies, people tend to consume more calories throughout the day, leading to weight loss stalls or, worse, weight gains.

A smoothie is thick and smooth. It often has the texture of a rich soup, and because it contains the fibrous elements of fruits and vegetables, it is more filling than a juice, once again proving that a blender is a superior purchase.

While a blender will create more beneficial drinks and is a more versatile machine, a juicer does have its place on your counter. However, if you have to choose just one appliance, go with the blender.
