One of the keys to sticking to a healthy way of eating is to switch things up every once in a while. It’s easy to get in a pattern and eat the same things day in and day out. There isn’t really anything wrong with this as long as you continue to provide your body with the nutrients it needs. But for some people, eating the same thing every day can take away their zest for life. Trust me. I’ve experienced it first-hand.

If you want to remain satisfied with your healthy way of eating, the food you choose to consume should be an adventure for your taste buds. The minute your daily dietary selections become too boring, you’re more susceptible to making a mistake and choosing highly processed or sugary foods out of boredom.

To restore my excitement for Paleo eating, I decided to try a few new foods. One of those new foods is Cara Cara oranges. I know what you’re thinking: oranges are oranges, right? Wrong! Here’s what you should know about Cara Cara oranges and why you should be eating them right now.

How Cara Cara Oranges Are Unique

Cara Cara oranges are about three to four inches in diameter. Their rinds are thick and bright orange in color, with a pebbly texture. The fruit inside ranges from pink to red. A Cara Cara orange is the brilliant result of cross-pollination between a Brazilian Bahia navel orange and a Washington navel orange. These two oranges are a match made in heaven because their offspring is absolutely incredible.

The fruit of the Cara Cara orange is different from the regular navel oranges you’re probably used to. It’s very sweet and almost berry-like in flavor. The segments are also incredibly juicy and tender. Whether you like to peel your oranges and break the segments apart with your fingers or cut your oranges in half and scoop the segments out with a spoon, you’ll be amazed at how soft and jelly-like Cara Cara orange fruit is.

Unique Features of Cara Cara Oranges

In addition to their rich color and their super-soft and juicy segments, here are a few other unique features of Cara Cara oranges. These are the features that set Cara Cara oranges apart from the rest.

They’re Low in Acid

Oranges are typically high in citric acid, which is why they sort of zing your tongue when you eat them. Cara Cara oranges are different, though. They’re lower in citric acid than their navel counterparts, so they aren’t sour at all. Instead, they’re remarkably sweet and refreshing.

They’re Packed Full of Nutrients

Like other types of oranges, Cara Cara oranges are absolutely packed with nutrients that can boost your immune function and overall health. Notable vitamins found in Cara Cara oranges include vitamins C and A. You’ll also get a lot of fiber and antioxidants with each Cara Cara orange you enjoy.

They Grow Well in Containers

Oranges can be finicky and difficult to grow in containers, but not Cara Cara oranges. They grow quite well in appropriate climates, even when put in a pot. Just make sure your pot is kept next to a sunny window or out on a patio in good weather.

They Produce an Irresistible Citrus Aroma

One thing you’ll notice about Cara Cara oranges is how irresistible they smell. They have a bright and sweet citrus aroma that makes them even more pleasant to taste.

Try the Most Heavenly Orange in Existence

By now you should be able to tell that I absolutely adore Cara Cara oranges. In fact, I don’t think I could ever go back to regular oranges now and be fully satisfied. If your Paleo diet has become a little boring and predictable, it’s time to spice (or sweeten) things up with Cara Cara oranges. Try one today and see if you can resist its remarkable appeal.
